Bonnaroo In Review

Our intern Yvonne Monu recently returned from her four day experience at Bonnaroo music festival with pictures and a wicked tan. We asked her about her experience at the festival and here are her answers…   JE: How did you get to the festival and what was it like to stay on the grounds? Yvonne: My roommate and a couple of her friends and I drove down to the festivals from Canada. I know it sounds like a far and not-so-fun drive but it actually turned out to be the perfect road trip and not surprisingly, there were people who came from farther away. We just put on some tunes, got a ton of snacks and had a ball. Once at Bonnaroo everyone is either in an RV or a tent of some kind. This definitely adds to the experience because it forces you to meet so many people from all over America and share opinions on all sorts of music; haha I never thought this would be a learning experience as well.

JE: You obviously saw a lot of musicians and acts, so which were your favorites? Yvonne: The phrase “a lot” does not begin to cover the amount of shows that I saw. It almost seems unfair, because the price I paid for my festival pass compared to the amount I would pay to see each individual act is so out of balance. In one day I saw Das Racist, Temper Trap, Santigold, Flogging Molly, Childish Gambino, The Roots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Superjam ft ?uestlove, and Skrillex..in ONE DAY! That’s insane if you ask me. But if I had to pick top three I’d say my top three favorite performances were Ludacris, Major Lazer, and Skrillex hands down. After seeing Skrillex, I knew that I definitely want to DJ and have that influence over people with my music so my time here at Jarrell Entertainment is invaluable.

JE: All in all what did you take away from your Bonnaroo experience and would you ever go again? Yvonne: First of all I’m going again next year and there’s no way you can stop me. Secondly, Bonnaroo is more than your average music festival, its a bonding experience with people who love music enough to devote four days away from their normal lives to go camp in a gigantic field with strangers and have the time of their lives. I listened to music I would never normally listen to, became friends with people I wouldn’t have before, and learned a ton about music.

MKL Spins at Nublu

About 10 years ago, Nublu was born in NYC’s East Village. What is Nublu you may ask? To put it simply, it is a conglomeration of some of the best musicians and deejays coming together to share that which they all have in common; good music. Their artist hail from not only the US but Brazil, Eastern Europe, the UK, and places far and in between. Some of Nublu’s past performers include David Bryn, Herbie Hancock, and John Zorn. In celebration of their 10th anniversary this coming June, Nublu is having an array of amazing musicians such as  JE’s very own DJ MKL (on June 2), along with Brazillian Girls, Moby, and DJ Logic perform throughout the month. Summer is here and the music is heating up so you don’t want to miss this. Check out the full lineup below.
